Everything You Need To Know About Dayton

(Dayton, OH) - Hello and welcome to Dayton, "The Gem City". Founded in 1796, Dayton has a population of 141,000 within city limits while over 3/4 of a million Ohioans call the metro area home. Dayton is the county seat of Montgomery County.

The first people to call what is now Dayton home were Native Americans who found the land next to a small bend in the Great Miami River a welcoming place.  Jonathan Dayton, for whom the city is named, was a signer of the US Constitution. National Cash Register company was founded in Dayton in 1884 and was a large employer in the Dayton area until leaving in 2010. The Wright Brothers traveled to North Carolina from their Dayton home when making their historic flights.

Today, with heavy manufacturing in decline, healthcare and defense are Dayton's main industries. Fifth Third Field, home of the Dayton Dragons minor league baseball team, is considered the crown jewel of minor league parks. The facility, developed as part of an ongoing urban revitalization, helped the Dragons attain the longest sellout streak in all of professional sports.
