This Quate King Is Not Only Consistent on the Table...

Quate King in the News

NOTE: USE IE to view the video or use this link to connect directly.

A very dedicated Philadelphia Eagles fan has marked an impressive milestone.

Rick Green from Lumberton, New Jersey attended his 200th consecutive Eagles home game.

Green said he's attended every home game since September 12, 1994.

On Sunday, Green and his friends wore a t-shirt with the words "The Streak" emblazoned on the back.

Green told Action news that it's not just the team that keeps him coming back, it's the whole experience going to a game.

---

If that wasn't cool enough, the NFL and the Eagles organization recognized Rick's accomplishment by offering him the opportunity to lead the Eagles out of the tunnel prior to kick-off and carry the team flag.  As you expect Rick politely declined the offer as he didn't want the focus on him instead making sure the Eagles could concentrate on the opponent at hand.  The sacrifice was paid off as the Eagles easily handled the 49ers to take their record to 7-1, giving Rick a well deserved victory for this 200th game and bringing his personal record to 121 wins and 79 losses over the length of the streak.

Little did Rick know that his snub actually left Carson Wentz "at the altar" holding the ball as our soon-to-be MVP was eagerly awaiting Rick's arrival so he could give the game ball in honor of this amazing accomplishment.  The Eagles organization being the class act that they are made sure this heirloom worthy recognition wouldn't sit idle and mailed the ball to Rick so he could share it with future generations of Green's.

Game Ball

Be sure to ask Rick about this amazing accomplishment and what he plans to do with this one-of-kind memento! The BSC is honored to say he is a part of our membership and fortunate to be able to share this news with you.

Quate Kings Announce New Representation

Let's be honest...who didn't see this coming!

Those that follow the Quate Kings know the epic history of their rise in the Shuffleboard community and their tireless effort to elevate the sport of Table Shuffleboard to universal respect and legitimacy.  Well, those actions haven’t gone un-noticed by the population at large and now they have the proper representation to match with their talent and popularity.  Drew Rosenhaus flew the Kings down to Charlotte for TNF (that's the reason we needed to postpone League night to this week) to put the final touches on the contract.  If nothing else we think this provides a statement for all the Table Shuffleboard players out there…your dreams can come true…hard work, determination and patience is the path to success.

The Kings look forward to a long relationship with Rosenhaus Sports Representation (RSR) and all the exciting opportunities that will soon be coming from such mutually beneficial relationship.  As an FYI, the official press conference will be held in the driveway of 14 Bennington Dr...next question!

Second Season Starts

We are very excited to release the schedule for tonight as we start the Second Season of the Bennington Shuffleboard League.  We are equally excited to let you know we have expanded the Club to 12 teams and would like to welcome some new members.  As with anything, change is inevitable and that would also be the case as we saw some teams replace members and would like to wish those not returning all the best.

Update to the Board

After more than 5 years of service under the current management team at Papa Joe’s it was time to give the ol’Board a tune-up…plus we were tired of hearing all the talk about how it favors the superior skills of the Quate Kings.  The board has been adjusted (Dr. Kershaw would be proud on this adjustment) to allow for a more concave feel to the table providing greater opportunity to score.  Also, a fresh coat of silicon has been applied to you have been warned…the board is playing FAST!!!

Many...Many, Many Thanks!

A Word of Thanks!

We would like to take a moment and thank all of those that made Sunday a great day!  Thanks to all of those that participated and spectated on Sunday as the postponement had no impact on participation levels...in reality we had more players!  We know many of you shifted prior plans to make Sunday work and we thank you as the mission of the tournament is to bring friends and family together and make memories through friendly competition...and I think we succeeded in that goal!

Thank you to all of those that brought/made food (Kris, Claire, Roberta, Heather, Jen, Denise, Katie, Fran, Amy...sorry if I forgot someone!) to feed our record amount of attendees.  Did you try those wings...probably not cause they went in record time...if you didn't get any, better luck next year cause Mikey D has perfected that recipe!  How about that homemade apple cider?  Big Mike broke out his special reserve to give us little taste of fall and Vermont! Your subtle efforts don't go without notice and know every little bit counts as I don't think we had anything to clean-up because all the food went!  We just hope all of your plates/serving trays/cupcake holders made their way back to you!  Also, whoever made those Teddy-Gram cupcakes...a special thanks as they were a delight (was that you Eileen)!

Thank you to Jenn and Scot for being our un-official photographer and Mitch-Match Moonshine producers.  Your combined efforts really make this event special and memorable (cause I don't remember half of those pictures...might be because of the Moonshine)!   Being able to share your photos for years to come is something we can never repay!  Click here to see all the pictures (including last year's event)!

Thanks to our Grounds Crew, Scott R., Aidan and Julie for strapping the leaf blower to your back and taking turns blowing the field and push that rain water off the playing surface.  It is those little touches that allowed everyone to have a more enjoyable day playing the game we all love.  If not for you, who knows if we would have even been able to play on Sunday!!!

Thank you to the Vermont contingent!  We know it wasn't easy heading north Sunday night but we sure hope the day provided enough memories and laughs to make that trip seem a little shorter as you headed back home!  Your presence and participation defines what this day is all about.

Big shout out to our partners in crime...Julie and Marianne, if not for your love and support we would not be able to make this day possible.  You put up with a lot of silliness and solo-parenting while this event is being planned and prepared for...and we thank you and love you!

Lastly, I would like to thank the man with the Mega-Phone...the Leader of the Wave...the Carnival Barker of all Carnival Barkers...the soon-to-be ESPN host of Tournament Bracketology...the Bob Villa of Cornhole Construction...the Mitch to my Match...Mick Sullivan!  It is magic watching you whip up the crowd with your made-up announcements (When is that dance contest?) and considerations ("...please remember to take off your shoes when entering the house").  Truly love doing this event with you and putting this all together...as it allows our families and friends to share that most precious resource of time together. Watching you work the brackets and keep all the separate tournaments/games organized and moving all the while keeping the crowd entertained provides me with memories and laughter for a lifetime.

2nd Annual Mitch-Match Cornhole Tournament Registration Open

2nd Annual Mitch-Match Cornhole Tournament Registration Open

Friends and Family,

We wanted to invite you to the Second Annual Mitch-Match Cornhole tournament with the desire to have all members of the family compete.  During a previous get-together Mick (aka Mitch) Sullivan said to me, “I love seeing all the families come together and making memories especially while doing something competitive.”  From that conversation was born the thought to co-host a cornhole tournament where all are invited to compete. Provided we have enough people, we are thinking of having three separate tournaments with the following categories:

  1. Kids (16 and under)
  2. Mixed (combination of kids and adults)
  3. Adults Only

Click here to register your team as space is limited. Individuals are allowed to compete in a maximum of two categories.  Each category will be a double-elimination with each game being won by the team that gets to 21 first. The hope is to start the day at 1pm with a BBQ set for around 5pm. We will have the pool open and other games for the kids to play as the day progresses.   We hope you can make it and we hope to build upon the thought that spurred this day to happen; let’s get everyone together and make memories through competition.  If you plan on attending, please supply us with the following:

  • Quantity (Qty) - The number "1" represents one team.
  • Name - Please supple the name(s) of participants and their team name
  • Phone Number - Please supply a phone number we can send a text

We are also looking for help with some of the food and supplies to make this day a successful one.  If you have the opportunity please click here to sign up for bringing some of the provisions needed to make this be one for all to remember.

P.S. Let me know if you have a cornhole set to use...might need more than the two we have currently.

Thanks and hope to see you on Saturday September 2nd (Sunday is our rain date)!

Mitch (Mick Sullivan) and Match (aka Matt Halt)

Date: 09/02/2017 (Sat.)
Time: 1:00pm - 9:00pm MDT

Family Night + Championship Night = History

The Playoff picture is set with the final matches to be played on Friday June 23rd to determine the Inaugural BSC Champions.  The evening will begin with the doors opening at 5:30 PM for Family Night where all BSC Members and their families are invited to attend an evening of fun and family. We will have the grill working with food and drinks for the whole family along with the pool and lawn games (like Ladder Ball, Corn-hole and Can Jam) available to stoke the competitive spirit as the real fun begins at 8:30 with the first match of the evening.

We ask that all that plan on attending partake in the community spirit of signing up for something to bring for the BBQ.  The sign-up sheet can be accessed with the following link.  [NOTE: There are several tabs to this document, please make sure you go to the "FamilyNightFood" tab] Please sign up for one or two items so we ensure enough food and libations are available for all.

Secondly, the evening is intended to bring all the families together and we would like to commemorate the evening with a little something for all the kids to remember so we encourage everyone to list their kids names and shirt sizes with the sign-in sheet located with this link.  [NOTE: There are several tabs to this document, please make sure you go to the "FamilyNightTshirt" tab] If you would like your kids to get a BSC exclusive and soon-to-be collectible t-shirt, please sign them up.

Lastly, let's get to the serious business of Shuffleboard.  The first match will be our Toilet Bowl showcasing the skills of the National League's Gutter Sluts squaring off against the American League's No, YOU're a Douche.  This game will start promptly at 8:30 PM in Papa Joe's Pub.  Rumor has it that the loser (or actually the winner of the Toilet Bowl) of this match might get regulated to permanent substitute status for the upcoming season but the BSC Board of Governors hasn't made it an official topic on their August Summer Meetings...more to come!  Next we have the National League Championship with first place Hair Club for Men going against Barney and Fred.  Then we will have fan favorites, world renown Quate Kings playing the red-hot I'm with Her!  Winners of each of the last two games will see each other in the winner take all Championship for the Inaugural BSC Crown.  Legend has it the winners will take a celebratory plunge in Kids Rule Pool if they wish to ensure another winning season!

Looking forward to all the activities on Friday and mostly looking forward to sharing some time with you and your families.

The Playoff Picture Comes Into Focus

The National League turned out to be the Wild West as we saw No Hair Club teetering on a Toilet Bowl birth to turn it around with a first round bye…what an amazing series of events and if there was ever a reason to not take anything for granted...you need to play every match.  The Kings continue their dominance this side of Route 70 with an undefeated regular season and a first round bye.  The rest of the league will spend the evening fighting it out to see who has the machismo to overcome their greatest advisory and face the respective divisional "Bye" recipient for a chance at Table Shuffleboard Glory.

We will have both 2nd vs 3rd game for each division play first.  The Toilet Bowl participants will be decided at the end of the evening with the 4th and 5th place teams playing at the end of the night.  The loser of each game will play on 6/23 for the dubious honor of the BSC Toilet Bowl Championship.

Derby Day - Get Your Entry in Today

The Triple Crown of Shuffleboard is happy to  announce  the 6th Annual Derby Day Shuffleboard Tournament will take place May 6th. This is the third and final event in the 2017 Triple Crown of Shuffleboard. The tournament is once again an Invitational, not an Open Tournament. There will be a limit of 10 teams (20 players total) in the tournament. Register now to avoid missing out on this tournament. 2016 Champions The ‘77ers await your challenge. If I missed anyone on this message, please forward to them.

Cost is $50 per team, with all $50 going toward the cash prizes. There will be food, drinks, and world-class shuffleboard action. Non-playing guests are encouraged to attend, cheer for your favorite shuffleboard team, and watch the Derby.

As usual, the tournament format is double elimination. Games are played to 15. You do not have to win by 2. The team coming from the loser bracket will have to win two consecutive games to take the title. After last year’s debacle, we will insist on tip off at 2PM sharp. We will play the first round games and the first two consolation matches. Then, we will break for the Derby (post time 646PM), and re-start at 7PM with the semifinals, moving towards a final around 10PM.

Floyd Mayweather (the boxer) has the night off again. Filling in for the second year in a row is Canelo Alvarez, who will fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Boxing enthusiasts may be interested. Everyone else, not so much.

Hopefully you’ll come join us for this great day of fun and fellowship. Good team names are required and uniforms are encouraged. Matching tee shirts will do the trick. We will also host a practice the Thursday before the tournament. This will allow novice players to work out the kinks and get a feel for the board.

To register: send me an email with your team name and names of each team member. Also, please include any restrictions on the times you are available. No promises, but will do everything possible to accommodate you. You can send your entry fee check to my address (below) or via PayPal for this email address.  Pass this along to anyone I missed. Please respond with a yes if you intend to play.

Seeding is blind. Byes will be given to last year’s finalists. Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the tournament:
1st Prize - $250 cash and a trophy for each player
2nd Prize - $100 cash
3rd Place - $50 cash (return of principal)

When: Saturday May 6th from 2PM
Where: Zimmermann House  – First floor Shuffleboard Room

Masters Hangover Easing Up...

No rest for the weary as the next meeting of the BSC takes place tomorrow night.  Doors to open a little later (8pm) as we are still gathering ourselves after the Masters celebration.  Last round of matches of the regular season before the first round of playoffs are slated to begin on May 10th.  A lot still up for grabs as the playoff picture is still murky…even the winless Gutter Sluts still have a mathematical chance to secure a third place finish if everything falls their way.  Click here to see the schedule.

Playoff Structure:

Remember, the playoffs are structured that May 10th will see both divisions 4th Place Teams match up against the 5th Place Teams with the loser playing in the final week for the Toilet Bowl.  Word is the Toilet Bowl "Winner" has to take a dip in the pool as a way to cement their status...just a rumor.  May 10th will also have both divisions 2nd and 3rd place teams square off to see who will place the first place divisional winners on June 14th. Click here to see the standings.

American Division Playoff Picture:

The American Division is a little more clear with the Quate Kings already locking up a first place bye and will not play again until Championship Night on June 14th even if they were to be shut out tomorrow night.  Grumpy Old Men are all but assured a second place finish and control their own destiny with a win tomorrow night.  But...and it is a BIG BUT, if they were to lose in convincing fashion to Shuffalupogus they could fall to fourth place with a win from I'm With Her over cross-division powerhouse Motherpuckers.   No, YOU're a Douche is even still in it with a sizable win over the Quate Kings (word is QK is in need of a sub) and losses from both I'm With Her and Shuffalupogus.

National Division Playoff Picture:

The National Division is a lot more cloudy as we still need to make-up a match from March 15th between No Hair Club and Gutter Sluts.  Essentially everything is up for grabs in this division with the exception of the Motherpuckers falling to 4th or 5th place.  They have locked up a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place finish not matter what happens.  Everybody else in the division is put on notice...win and best your chances to move up...lose and you better go swimsuit shopping for a June 14th dip.

Championship Night:

Open to suggestions but would love to move the regularly scheduled Wednesday June 14th evening to Friday June 16th and turn the evening into a Family Night BBQ.  Have the kids and wives over for burgers and dogs, take advantage of the pool and backyard activities (start around 6pm) and move the activities for the BSC members into the basement for the Final Four Matches (start around 9pm).  This would require some coordination and commitment.  We can discuss tomorrow.

Medford Masters 2017...A Tradition Unlike Any Other!

The tagline could not have been more appropriate to describe this year's Medford Masters as we saw some things that we never saw before happen.  We had our first female participant, we had our first taste of Masters Moonshine, we closed out the event with Mint Juleps as we passed the torch to the host of the Derby Day Tournament...so many firsts but somehow they all felt like been with us for the entire history of this event.  Oh, yes we also had our first repeat champion and our first four-time jacket winner...a well deserved congratulations to the members of the Dead Rabbits as they pulled a rabbit out of the hat to become 2017 Medford Masters Champions.

The day got started at 2:00 PM with our first pairings squaring off with Bloody Mary's in hand.  Sri Lanka Donks (Sandhun Mendis and Aaron Juckett) didn't have enough kick to fend off tournament veterans JO Time (Sean Toner and Brian O'Kane). The 2:30 Tee Time saw Orthopedics Please (Joe "Papa Joe's Pub" Halt and Mikey Denkowycz) looking for their shoe inserts as upstarts Pucky Brewster (Cody Grable and Patrick Lavelle) came out firing to an early and decisive win.  All of Riverton was waiting on baited breath as they saw two of their own square off as the Dead Rabbits began their quest to repeat by holding off Dark Corris (Mark Morris and Dan Colbert).  Next up was our very own version of Darla Moore as East Meets West (Jenn and Scott Reddell) went up against the aforementioned JO Time and in record breaking fashion quickly disposed of JO and moved on to the next round.  The fan favorite Quate Kings went against WickGinnis (Joe Wick and Josh Ginnis) and were seen drinking the High Life like a Red Auerbach cigar...toasting Joe and Josh all the best in the Loser's Bracket.  The last match of the round saw BSC veterans One More (Mike Francisco and Chris Cogan) come up against the buzz-saw that was Pucky Brewster.

The Winners Bracket finale came as no surprise with the two most talented teams going head-to-head.  The only surprise was how quickly and easily the victory came to the Quate Kings as the Dead Rabbits looked as if it wasn't their day and were regulated to the Loser's Bracket.  It is there that the Rabbits began to regain their stride as they began to show the steely resolve that has made them the champions that they are...holding off Pucky Brewster to push themselves back into the championship. It was a steep hill to climb as the Rabbits were facing a tall challenge to beat the Kings in consecutive matches if they wished to slip their arms back into those coveted Green Jackets.  The Rabbits jumped out to an early and commanding lead leaving our fan favorites back on their heels but they aren't called the Kings for no reason as they mounted a comeback of their own getting the match within reach before the Dead Rabbits closed out the contest to force a sudden-death winner-take-all finally.
Again the Rabbits jumped out to an early and commanding lead to only be brought back within striking distance of the Quate Kings when Rick Green threw a hammer shot that Odin himself would have been proud of...by passing Dave Dieal's four quates to sit a three and breath life back into the struggling Quate Kings.  But alas it wasn't enough as the Rabbits were too much for the Quate Kings as they went on to win their second Green Jacket in consecutive fashion.

That concluded the action on the shuffleboard table as the Green Jacket ceremony was quickly performed thereafter.  A fantastic finish to a great day and another nod to the improving Table Shuffleboard scene that is taking place in the area.  Hats off to the Board Members of the Triple Crown of Shuffleboard for staging another event as they showcased more fine examples of top-flight Table Shuffleboard talent.  Many thanks to all that helped make the day a success, as this kind of event doesn't happen without a lot of people helping out and we would like to recognize those who did help:

  • Papa Joe - If it weren't for you and the example you provided all of this wouldn't be possible
  • Mikey Denkowycz - Keep the wings coming...they were delish!
  • Aaron Juckett - For keeping the drinks flowing and making sure everyone had a cocktail when needed
  • Scott and Jenn Reddell - For bringing us our newest tradition with the Masters Moonshine...they were some tasty beverages!
  • Jenn Reddell - For keeping the Brackett legible and being the tournament photographer
  • Mike Francisco - For keeping the peace
  • Rich "the dealer" Wessel - For keeping the cards in the air!
  • Rick Green - For providing the path for all of us to follow...no March Madness,..no TCOS!
  • Marianne Halt - For being my partner in life and supporting this!
  • All the 2017 Participants - Thanks for making the time to share the day with us...your friendship is why this is possible...so thank you!!!
Many thanks and hope to see you next year...save the date for April 7th, 2018

Seeing Green

Last night saw Papa Joe's Pub host a celebration of "Green" with the official kick-off of the Medford Masters 2017 Weekend.  The evening was highlighted by the assembly of past and present champions wearing their often admired and always coveted Green Jackets.  The tradition of the Jacket was enhanced this year with the addition of name tags with winning years listed to further distinguish our champions.

Former and Current Medford Masters Champions

Richard Green ('10, '12, '15), Dave Dieal ('16), Scott Zimmermann ('10, '12, '16), Joe Martino ('08, '13, '14), Mathew Halt ('13, '14, '15)

Not that champions don't know who each other are (as it is a select and friendly fraternity) but help the fans not confuse a Joe Martino from a Scott Zimmermann.  Speaking of Scott Zimmermann, he was further honored last night by the fact that he got to select last night's menu which he wisely choose grilled rabbit (his team the Dead Rabbits...get it) and Coke Zeros.  His partner Dave Dieal was officially inducted into the Green Jacket Society last night with his very own jacket and we have to admit he looks good in it.

All the friendly back slapping and exchange of bro-hugs quickly washed away as the focus got to the matches at hand.  We had our current champions returning to form as they won last night and fan favorite Quate Kings were firing on all cylinders we a convincing win.  The 2017 is shaping up to be another classic and live up to it's adage of A Tradition Unlike Any Other.
