The Playoff Picture Comes Into Focus

The National League turned out to be the Wild West as we saw No Hair Club teetering on a Toilet Bowl birth to turn it around with a first round bye…what an amazing series of events and if there was ever a reason to not take anything for granted...you need to play every match.  The Kings continue their dominance this side of Route 70 with an undefeated regular season and a first round bye.  The rest of the league will spend the evening fighting it out to see who has the machismo to overcome their greatest advisory and face the respective divisional "Bye" recipient for a chance at Table Shuffleboard Glory.

We will have both 2nd vs 3rd game for each division play first.  The Toilet Bowl participants will be decided at the end of the evening with the 4th and 5th place teams playing at the end of the night.  The loser of each game will play on 6/23 for the dubious honor of the BSC Toilet Bowl Championship.

Derby Day - Get Your Entry in Today

The Triple Crown of Shuffleboard is happy to  announce  the 6th Annual Derby Day Shuffleboard Tournament will take place May 6th. This is the third and final event in the 2017 Triple Crown of Shuffleboard. The tournament is once again an Invitational, not an Open Tournament. There will be a limit of 10 teams (20 players total) in the tournament. Register now to avoid missing out on this tournament. 2016 Champions The ‘77ers await your challenge. If I missed anyone on this message, please forward to them.

Cost is $50 per team, with all $50 going toward the cash prizes. There will be food, drinks, and world-class shuffleboard action. Non-playing guests are encouraged to attend, cheer for your favorite shuffleboard team, and watch the Derby.

As usual, the tournament format is double elimination. Games are played to 15. You do not have to win by 2. The team coming from the loser bracket will have to win two consecutive games to take the title. After last year’s debacle, we will insist on tip off at 2PM sharp. We will play the first round games and the first two consolation matches. Then, we will break for the Derby (post time 646PM), and re-start at 7PM with the semifinals, moving towards a final around 10PM.

Floyd Mayweather (the boxer) has the night off again. Filling in for the second year in a row is Canelo Alvarez, who will fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Boxing enthusiasts may be interested. Everyone else, not so much.

Hopefully you’ll come join us for this great day of fun and fellowship. Good team names are required and uniforms are encouraged. Matching tee shirts will do the trick. We will also host a practice the Thursday before the tournament. This will allow novice players to work out the kinks and get a feel for the board.

To register: send me an email with your team name and names of each team member. Also, please include any restrictions on the times you are available. No promises, but will do everything possible to accommodate you. You can send your entry fee check to my address (below) or via PayPal for this email address.  Pass this along to anyone I missed. Please respond with a yes if you intend to play.

Seeding is blind. Byes will be given to last year’s finalists. Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the tournament:
1st Prize - $250 cash and a trophy for each player
2nd Prize - $100 cash
3rd Place - $50 cash (return of principal)

Where: Zimmermann House  – First floor Shuffleboard Room

Masters Hangover Easing Up...

No rest for the weary as the next meeting of the BSC takes place tomorrow night.  Doors to open a little later (8pm) as we are still gathering ourselves after the Masters celebration.  Last round of matches of the regular season before the first round of playoffs are slated to begin on May 10th.  A lot still up for grabs as the playoff picture is still murky…even the winless Gutter Sluts still have a mathematical chance to secure a third place finish if everything falls their way.  Click here to see the schedule.

Playoff Structure:

Remember, the playoffs are structured that May 10th will see both divisions 4th Place Teams match up against the 5th Place Teams with the loser playing in the final week for the Toilet Bowl.  Word is the Toilet Bowl "Winner" has to take a dip in the pool as a way to cement their status...just a rumor.  May 10th will also have both divisions 2nd and 3rd place teams square off to see who will place the first place divisional winners on June 14th. Click here to see the standings.

American Division Playoff Picture:

The American Division is a little more clear with the Quate Kings already locking up a first place bye and will not play again until Championship Night on June 14th even if they were to be shut out tomorrow night.  Grumpy Old Men are all but assured a second place finish and control their own destiny with a win tomorrow night.  But...and it is a BIG BUT, if they were to lose in convincing fashion to Shuffalupogus they could fall to fourth place with a win from I'm With Her over cross-division powerhouse Motherpuckers.   No, YOU're a Douche is even still in it with a sizable win over the Quate Kings (word is QK is in need of a sub) and losses from both I'm With Her and Shuffalupogus.

National Division Playoff Picture:

The National Division is a lot more cloudy as we still need to make-up a match from March 15th between No Hair Club and Gutter Sluts.  Essentially everything is up for grabs in this division with the exception of the Motherpuckers falling to 4th or 5th place.  They have locked up a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place finish not matter what happens.  Everybody else in the division is put on notice...win and best your chances to move up...lose and you better go swimsuit shopping for a June 14th dip.

Championship Night:

Open to suggestions but would love to move the regularly scheduled Wednesday June 14th evening to Friday June 16th and turn the evening into a Family Night BBQ.  Have the kids and wives over for burgers and dogs, take advantage of the pool and backyard activities (start around 6pm) and move the activities for the BSC members into the basement for the Final Four Matches (start around 9pm).  This would require some coordination and commitment.  We can discuss tomorrow.

Medford Masters 2017...A Tradition Unlike Any Other!

The tagline could not have been more appropriate to describe this year's Medford Masters as we saw some things that we never saw before happen.  We had our first female participant, we had our first taste of Masters Moonshine, we closed out the event with Mint Juleps as we passed the torch to the host of the Derby Day Tournament...so many firsts but somehow they all felt like been with us for the entire history of this event.  Oh, yes we also had our first repeat champion and our first four-time jacket winner...a well deserved congratulations to the members of the Dead Rabbits as they pulled a rabbit out of the hat to become 2017 Medford Masters Champions.

The day got started at 2:00 PM with our first pairings squaring off with Bloody Mary's in hand.  Sri Lanka Donks (Sandhun Mendis and Aaron Juckett) didn't have enough kick to fend off tournament veterans JO Time (Sean Toner and Brian O'Kane). The 2:30 Tee Time saw Orthopedics Please (Joe "Papa Joe's Pub" Halt and Mikey Denkowycz) looking for their shoe inserts as upstarts Pucky Brewster (Cody Grable and Patrick Lavelle) came out firing to an early and decisive win.  All of Riverton was waiting on baited breath as they saw two of their own square off as the Dead Rabbits began their quest to repeat by holding off Dark Corris (Mark Morris and Dan Colbert).  Next up was our very own version of Darla Moore as East Meets West (Jenn and Scott Reddell) went up against the aforementioned JO Time and in record breaking fashion quickly disposed of JO and moved on to the next round.  The fan favorite Quate Kings went against WickGinnis (Joe Wick and Josh Ginnis) and were seen drinking the High Life like a Red Auerbach cigar...toasting Joe and Josh all the best in the Loser's Bracket.  The last match of the round saw BSC veterans One More (Mike Francisco and Chris Cogan) come up against the buzz-saw that was Pucky Brewster.

The Winners Bracket finale came as no surprise with the two most talented teams going head-to-head.  The only surprise was how quickly and easily the victory came to the Quate Kings as the Dead Rabbits looked as if it wasn't their day and were regulated to the Loser's Bracket.  It is there that the Rabbits began to regain their stride as they began to show the steely resolve that has made them the champions that they are...holding off Pucky Brewster to push themselves back into the championship. It was a steep hill to climb as the Rabbits were facing a tall challenge to beat the Kings in consecutive matches if they wished to slip their arms back into those coveted Green Jackets.  The Rabbits jumped out to an early and commanding lead leaving our fan favorites back on their heels but they aren't called the Kings for no reason as they mounted a comeback of their own getting the match within reach before the Dead Rabbits closed out the contest to force a sudden-death winner-take-all finally.
Again the Rabbits jumped out to an early and commanding lead to only be brought back within striking distance of the Quate Kings when Rick Green threw a hammer shot that Odin himself would have been proud of...by passing Dave Dieal's four quates to sit a three and breath life back into the struggling Quate Kings.  But alas it wasn't enough as the Rabbits were too much for the Quate Kings as they went on to win their second Green Jacket in consecutive fashion.

That concluded the action on the shuffleboard table as the Green Jacket ceremony was quickly performed thereafter.  A fantastic finish to a great day and another nod to the improving Table Shuffleboard scene that is taking place in the area.  Hats off to the Board Members of the Triple Crown of Shuffleboard for staging another event as they showcased more fine examples of top-flight Table Shuffleboard talent.  Many thanks to all that helped make the day a success, as this kind of event doesn't happen without a lot of people helping out and we would like to recognize those who did help:

  • Papa Joe - If it weren't for you and the example you provided all of this wouldn't be possible
  • Mikey Denkowycz - Keep the wings coming...they were delish!
  • Aaron Juckett - For keeping the drinks flowing and making sure everyone had a cocktail when needed
  • Scott and Jenn Reddell - For bringing us our newest tradition with the Masters Moonshine...they were some tasty beverages!
  • Jenn Reddell - For keeping the Brackett legible and being the tournament photographer
  • Mike Francisco - For keeping the peace
  • Rich "the dealer" Wessel - For keeping the cards in the air!
  • Rick Green - For providing the path for all of us to follow...no March Madness,..no TCOS!
  • Marianne Halt - For being my partner in life and supporting this!
  • All the 2017 Participants - Thanks for making the time to share the day with us...your friendship is why this is possible...so thank you!!!
Many thanks and hope to see you next year...save the date for April 7th, 2018

Seeing Green

Last night saw Papa Joe's Pub host a celebration of "Green" with the official kick-off of the Medford Masters 2017 Weekend.  The evening was highlighted by the assembly of past and present champions wearing their often admired and always coveted Green Jackets.  The tradition of the Jacket was enhanced this year with the addition of name tags with winning years listed to further distinguish our champions.

Former and Current Medford Masters Champions

Richard Green ('10, '12, '15), Dave Dieal ('16), Scott Zimmermann ('10, '12, '16), Joe Martino ('08, '13, '14), Mathew Halt ('13, '14, '15)

Not that champions don't know who each other are (as it is a select and friendly fraternity) but help the fans not confuse a Joe Martino from a Scott Zimmermann.  Speaking of Scott Zimmermann, he was further honored last night by the fact that he got to select last night's menu which he wisely choose grilled rabbit (his team the Dead Rabbits...get it) and Coke Zeros.  His partner Dave Dieal was officially inducted into the Green Jacket Society last night with his very own jacket and we have to admit he looks good in it.

All the friendly back slapping and exchange of bro-hugs quickly washed away as the focus got to the matches at hand.  We had our current champions returning to form as they won last night and fan favorite Quate Kings were firing on all cylinders we a convincing win.  The 2017 is shaping up to be another classic and live up to it's adage of A Tradition Unlike Any Other.

Super Bowl Squares...And the Winners Are?

It's all over but the crying...and for some that might not ever end.  The BSC is proud to have been part of Super Bowl history with the historic game being memorialized with our little game of SB Squares.  The proceeds will be disbursed tonight with $50 going to Aaron Jucket (Shuffalupogus) with his ownership of the first and third quarter squares.  Our host, Matthew Halt (Quate Kings) was lucky enough to own the half-time square and will pocket $25.  The BIG winner was Dennis Ludwig (Enclave Allies) who owned potential every possible square for almost every possible outcome...unbelievable and virtual vice-lock on the final prize of $125!  Congrats to all of our winners and thanks to all that played!  Be on the look out for our March Madness Pool!

Christmas Came Early

Someone got an early Christmas gift as this picture shows!

Medford Logistics (d.b.a. Shuffalupogus) was down 18-14 to the Gutter Sluts with the match on the line.  That is when Scott Risser starting throwing his quates and landed three 3's on the table.  What turned out to be the match of the night saw an incredible comeback for these two gentlemen that up to that night never knew one another.  A great example of what this club is all about...bringing people together through competition.  That was just the first night of this inaugural season.  Good luck to all the teams and we look forward to the rest of the season.

Did Someone Say Ryder Cup?

Bennington Shuffleboard Club vs. Terrace Club?

The season hasn't even started and there is already talk of a potential Ryder Cup type tournament between the BSC and the Terrace Club.  The idea of two clubs playing a series of different match play competitions is currently just talk but one can dream.  It would be interesting to see if we can plan to do it sometime in the coming months but the focus is squarely on getting this season off the ground.

Introduction of the BSC

TCoS is proud to announce the creation of the Bennington Shuffleboard Club.

The Board Members of the Triple Crown of Shuffleboard recently accepted Matthew Halt's proposal to allow the Bennington Shuffleboard Club (BSC) to reside under the umbrella of the TCoS organization.  The history and prestige of the TCoS brand is instantly recognizable as the organization has promoted the wonders of top-shelf competitive shuffleboard around the state for the last decade.  Events such as March Madness, the Medford Masters and the Derby Day Shuffleboard Tournaments have been the calling card of the TCoS.  More recently the success of theTerrace Club, serving the residents of Riverton and the surrounding areas, has provided Matt the confidence to bring a similar setting for those in the Medford area.

The Inagurial season will begin in December and run through June taking place once a month on the second Wednesday of the month.  We will have close to 30 participants, making up 10 teams with a dedicated list of substitutes, that will allow for the creation of two divisions. The season will culminate with the crowning of a team that will play six matches with the top three teams in each division entering a playoff that will eventually result in a champion.

Nothing has been confirmed, as calls to their agent have not been returned, but it is believed TCoS fan favorites the legendary Quate Kings are rumored to be taking part in this inaugural season.  The Quate Kings, ever the ambassadors of the game, will be entering 2017 with their busiest schedule on record with the three big tournaments and the Terrace Spring Season.  The members of BSC are comprised of many talented individuals, so it will be interesting to see how the Quate Kings can compete in a new environment...one of the many developing story lines that will make up this history making season.

The desire of the BSC is to bring together members of the Medford area and surrounding communities to socialize around the shuffleboard table and experience all the wonders that come with participating in competitive shuffleboard.  We wish all the best to the members of BSC.  We hope they come to realize how special  the journey is that they are about to take, and that they have the ability to pay it forward for future generations of shuffleboard players.

A Sign of Things to Come?

A sign of things to come? The universe just coming back into balance? A lot less beer consumed?  However you want to view it the Kings took the Dead Rabbits behind the shed and improved their record (5-2) and their point differential (+37) to a league best...48 hours before the gates open and the  3-year old colts make their mad dash for the roses. Personally we think it is a sign of things to come but we will soon find out who will be draped in a bed of roses and be signing "My old Kentucky Home!"

Kings Blame Booze For Loss

(Riverton, New Jersey) - As of last night, the Kings are officially blaming heavy beer and liquor consumption for their 4th place finish at the Medford Masters. Two Points: Did the Kings not realize those drinks would add up throughout the day long marathon? and, The Kings have won more than a few tournaments when their competitors succummed to the flowing taps.
Be careful - heavy drinking could impair coordination!

Pretty Big News Up North

(Winnipeg, MA) - If you follow the Winnipeg sports scene at all (and i think most of you do), you've probably already heard the big news about the Blue Bombers going back to Royal Blue. Regardless, we felt it was newsworthy and wanted to let anyone who missed it in on the big news.
Regular Season starts June 24.

What A Fine Tailor They Have On Bennington!

Damn It Feels Good To Win The Masters.

Dead Rabbits Start, Finish Strong To Take Medford Masters

(Medford, New Jersey) - The Dead Rabbits took down some of the area's top teams in succession yesterday. Early on, the Rabbits dispatched Dos Amigos with some fine play. After a three hour layoff, the table shuffleboard world watched a rematch of the 2014 Terrace Club Spring Season Finals. The Dead Rabbits got ahead early and were able to hold of the legendary Quate Kings. After some action in the loser bracker, the Rabbits cooled down The Steamers in the finals to lock up their place in the Championship Game. Emerging from the loser bracket was No Line Available. The Rabbits showed no mercy and dispatched NLA with a great finishing shot by Dave. It was the first Master's title ever for Dave and the first since 2014 for (now 3 time champion) Death Machine.
The aftermath of Dave's clinching shot.

Hosting Dispute Leads To League Site Moving Mid-Season

(Riverton, New Jersey) - No one is sure why, but our hosting company is not cooperating, and is disputing payment of the annual license on the site. In order to keep our fans informed, we're forwarding our page automatically. So they only thing our fans will notice is a longer URL in the address bar.

We swear, we are using a leading company.

The Quate Kings are slated to meet  No Line Available in a rematch of the March Madness Championship Game and an Elimination Match.

Quate Kings Overcome Early Defeat To Win Late

(Lumberton, New Jersey) - An early loss to JO Time could not stop the Quate Kings from reeling off 7 straight victories to clinch the 14th installment of March Madness at Pop's Pub. They clinched the tournament with decisive wins over Potent Potables and two wins over No Line Available.

The Kings went old-school with simple uniforms to collect their trophy.
